Contemporary chic meets African flare

1-3 February 2012, Darling Harbour

Australia’s premiere interior and soft furnishings Trade Fair, DECORATION + DESIGN, will return to the Sydney Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour from 1-3 February 2012. Renowned as the key national interiors event, DECORATION + DESIGN will this coming year bring together over 100 distinctive suppliers from Australia and the world.

Visitors to the 2012 Fair will see the latest collections in wallpaper, decorative accessories, fabrics, furniture, homewares, lights and lamps, soft furnishings and wall art. Alongside established labels such as About Space, Craft Enterprises and Crowley & Grouch, DECORATION + DESIGN Sydney 2012 will also feature stands by new exhibitors DesignRSecrets, Inside Africa and Homepride Pty Ltd.

DesignRSecrets will debut an eclectic range of antique and handmade pieces sourced directly from Thailand.  Born from a desire to see more reasonably priced products which are unique and of high quality, DesignRSecrets cater to designers, architects and clients.

What began as one bag of ornamental grass hats in 1984 has grown into a rich range of stunning traditional African pieces acquired by Inside Africa. Now Australia’s largest African importer the AIFF newcomer will unveil finds from its most recent tour.

Also providing African flare are the ever popular Queensland based Craft Enterprises Pty.  The veteran exhibiter returns to Decoration + Design with a new range that juxtaposes classic and ethnic styles, to create a truly unique aesthetic.

Cutting-edge lighting specialist About Space will present its latest rangeof modern lighting - designed to transform a room at a flick of a switch! Pieces include sleek, customised contemporary fixtures and classic 20th century retro styles.

This year’s International Industry Seminar Series is a must-see. Headlining the Series will be US interior designer to the stars Martyn Lawrence Bullard, along with Suzanne Trocmé (UK), Curator of the London Design Festival. Local speakers include style authority Melinda Ashton Turner, interior designers Chelsea Hing and Sarah Davison, and lighting designer Petra Kleegraefe.

GentyMarshall, Decoration + Design’s resident trend forecaster, will also join the series, giving a seminar on The Collector, The Creator and The Connoisseur. Based on her Design Futures installation area at Decoration + Design, Genty’s talk will look at three distinctive ways of relating to design and through these personalities and demonstrate some of the trends we’ll be seeing in 2012.

DECORATION + DESIGN Sydney is co-located with the AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR and special feature HOTEL + HOSPITALITY FURNISHINGS at the Sydney Exhibition Centre from Wednesday 1 February – Friday 3 February 2012.
