easyJet grows presence with Travelport: New agreement brings easyJet content to all travel agency customers worldwide

easyJet grows presence with Travelport

New agreement brings easyJet content to all travel agency customers worldwide

easyJet, the UK's largest airline and Travelport have today announced a new agreement that will further open up easyJet booking services to be sold by all Galileo-connected agency customers worldwide and any other agency using the Travelport Universal API™. In addition, the new agreement will also deliver enhanced functionality to improve the booking process for agents, including the sale of easyJet ancillary services. This builds on an earlier agreement between easyJet and Travelport in 2007 which represented easyJet’s first move into enabling third party distribution of its products.

All travel agents can now benefit from the improved efficiency and productivity achieved by accessing easyJet content through the Travelport GDS, enabling faster booking and the building of itineraries including hotel, car and other travel services offered by Travelport.

Commenting on the new agreement, Andrew Hodges, easyJet's Director of Sales, Distribution & Business, said: “We are delighted to be extending and expanding our partnership with Travelport and making our content available to all travel agents. Travelport’s extensive global footprint provides us with an efficient distribution channel for distributing our popular low-fares, including the Flexi fare, especially to the managed corporate travel market.”

Robin Ranken, Head of Airline Relationships for Europe at Travelport, added: “This revised agreement extends the scope of the distribution we are able to provide easyJet as we harness our technology investment to facilitate the sale of airline products and meet their changing needs. Our global footprint as well as the value the intermediary channel can bring a carrier such as easyJet, in addition to the network carriers and alliances we serve, have been key factors in reaching a successful conclusion.”

                                                                           - Ends -

Reverse the scales this Winter: Six secrets to ensure your clothes are the only extra layers you wear this season.

Reverse the scales this Winter

Six secrets to ensure your clothes are the only extra layers you wear this season.

Endless excuses to avoid exercise coupled with cravings for high-fat comfort foods have most of us gaining that extra dreaded ‘winter coat’. In fact, statistics reveal the average Australian adult gains over 0.5 kilograms during winter .

‘Winter is infamous for weight gain, however there is no valid reason to justify putting your body through these unhealthy fluctuations, particularly in Australia where our winters are relatively mild,’ says IsoWhey® Brand Ambassador, nutritionist, Zoe Bingley-Pullin.

‘One of the main reasons people fall victim to winter weight gain is because they make excuses to move less. It is vital that you don’t give yourself psychological permission to compromise your body’s health and wellness in the cooler months,’ adds Zoe Bingley-Pullin.

Zoe Bingley-Pullin shares her six secrets to avoiding the extra kilos during the winter months:

1. Choose comfort foods wisely – a healthy lamb or beef stew is a wonderful comfort food that is both warm and nourishing. Make extra quantities and freeze for future meals.
2. Keep hydrated – homemade herbal teas are quick and easy to prepare and will keep your body warm and well hydrated over winter.
3. Maintain a regular exercise routine – get your body’s temperature soaring with some great winter exercise alternatives such as Bikram or Power Yoga.
4. Recruit a support team - a recent study reported in The New England Journal of Medicine found dramatic improvements to weight loss when people had access to professional intervention2. Access a free weight loss support network at www.IsoWhey.com.au - including the guidance of an online trainer and personal chef.
5. Get some sunlight - a brief lunchtime walk can work wonders for energy levels and weight, as well as your all-important vitamin D status. Sunlight is also vital to optimise your mood.
6. Set challenges and celebrate successes – make a realistic plan, get excited and if you achieve your goals, why not reward yourself with a non-food related reward such as a massage?

‘Make sure you don’t use winter as an excuse to stay indoors, skip the gym or eat unhealthy foods. Instead, adopt Zoe’s great tips to maintain a healthy lifestyle that keeps you energised through winter,’ says Peter Barraket, Director of Sales and Marketing at FIT-BioCeuticals Limited, the home of IsoWhey®.

Kids and caffeine: Life Education encourages parents to seek real energy options

Kids and caffeine

Life Education encourages parents to seek real energy options

Life Education, the largest non-government provider of health education in schools, is reaching out to parents to encourage them to better inform their children about caffeine andenergy drinks.

The charity, best known for their friendly mascot Healthy Harold the giraffe, worked with 620,000 children in3,500 primary and secondary schools across Australia last year and is focused on providing children and young people with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed, healthy choices.

According to a study by The Medical Journal of Australia (MJA) on the health risks and toxicity of energy drinks, the consumption of caffeinated beverages intended to “energise” has increased significantly over the past 10 years.

Life Education is concerned about the increasing consumption of these products and the charity’s CEO, David Ballhausen queries whether energy drinks are a safe or healthy option for children and young people. “If young kids are choosing to consume these products, let’s make sure both their parents and them understand the consequences,” says David Ballhausen.

“The MJA report states that teenagers are particularly attracted to energy drinks because of effective marketing campaigns, peer influence and a lack of knowledge of the potential harmful effects.

“These products can contain a much higher dose of caffeine than other drinks that this age group is consuming. Caffeine is a drug that stimulates the central nervous system and while commonly consumed by adults, it is not the norm that this stimulantwould be consumed by younger people. The over consumption of caffeine, as many parents wouldappreciate, can be quite toxic, causingtremors, anxiety, hypertension, headaches, nausea and insomnia.

“We are keen to ensure children and young people, who are likely to be more sensitive to the effects of caffeine, are aware of these potential consequences. We are taking the opportunity to raise awareness of this health issue amongst parents.

“Given the high caffeine content in these drinks, the way they are marketed to young people, their ready availability and the inexperience of the young consumer, it would be prudent for parents to look closely at the labelling and understand the risks for their children,” he says.

A recent study published in Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, highlighted the vulnerability of children to the adverse effects of caffeine consumption, particularly children with cardiac abnormalities, diabetes, mood or behaviour disorders or who take certain medication.

When age appropriate, Life Education includes information on the effects of caffeine and how it is commonly found in food and drinks in its educational program taught in primary schools.

Life Education is encouraging parents to help in this initiative by steering their kids away from energy drinks and providing them with healthy alternatives. Life Education’s top tips for parents are:

1. Discuss what an energy drink is with your child, read the label together and ensure you both know about the ingredients and their potential harmful effects.
2. Encourage them to consume water, or if they need a boost, juices with little or no added sugar.
3. Provide your child with a healthy nutritious lunch box and water bottle each day for school and take away the temptation for energy drinks. Healthy carbohydrate rich foods in your child’s lunch will maintain sustainable energy levels throughout their day.
4. Lead by example with your children. Consider your own intake of energy drinks and if you too could consider healthier alternatives.

– Ends –

About Life Education:
Life Education is the largest non-government provider of health and drug education to children and young people, Australia wide and is well known for its popular mascot, Healthy Harold the Giraffe.

Sofas designed for Australia’s lifestyle

Sofas designed for Australia’s lifestyle

How do you predict the future direction in design? How do you anticipate how Australians will use their sofas in years to come? What are the primary reasons people like their lounge? These are just some of the considerations that go into designing Australia’s most awarded sofa styles.

King Furniture is renowned for its innovative design and pioneering techniques, but ultimately it is their understanding of Australia’s lifestyle that keeps the awards coming. This doesn’t detract from the significance of the engineered steel frame that is central to the design of each sofa, and the advanced Postureflex® seating system (best associated with luxury cars) which assures deep comfort. These elements will continue to be at the heart of each sofa style because they deliver on durability, flexibility and comfort – the key reasons we like our sofas.

By creating sofas that address our lifestyle needs, King Furniture has achieved success not only with consumers but also the industry, receiving more than 20 awards and accolades.

“The design team at King Furniture are immersed in a myriad of creative considerations for any one sofa style, but are always conscious of designing to suit our lifestyle – and that includes how we use our sofa and living space, how we like to entertain friends, the style of homes we live in and so on,” says John Levey, Research & Development Manager.

Breakthrough sofa designs that reflect this include Delta which boasts up to 32 different configurations – from an upright sofa to a sofa bed – as well as incorporating a storage option. “Australians want a sofa that adapts to their changing lifestyle needs and the modular design of Delta offers unparalleled flexibility, assuring its relevance to a wider audience and for generations to come,” says John Levey.

Jasper is another sofa that literally changes with the times, with customisation its specialty. Platforms and shelves can be added and moved around – such as incorporating a bookshelf or side table in place of an armrest, or extending a 2 seater to a 3 or 4 seater setting, or sofa bed.

King’s newest sofa, Carousel has resonated strongly with consumers since launching in July 2011, and it’s not just the sophisticated aesthetic that is turning heads. “We introduced flexible and interchangeable arms and backs that accommodate a range of resting positions because we recognise that lying on the sofa is one of life’s great pleasures”.

The engineering mechanism that makes this smooth adjustment possible was developed by King and is a design first both here and overseas. Carousel has also gained industry interest, winning the 2011 Excellence in Furniture using Fabric Award at the Australian Furniture Awards.

King Furniture’s design team has expanded over the past three years under the helm of David King, and now includes specialists in textiles (leather, fabric, tailoring), industrial and furniture designers and design students who are mentored by King – through internships as well as tertiary initiatives. Additionally the company collaborates with successful Australian designers, including Charles Wilson – who worked on the award winning Andrea sofa design - and David Hicks - who is the interior architect behind King’s award winning showrooms.

So what should we look for when shopping for a sofa? King’s top tips for choosing a sofa:

1. Design – Quality design will last the distance – both in aesthetic and in resilience. Choose a sofa that
combines stylish yet classic design with durable, high end materials.

2. Flexibility – Does the sofa suit your lifestyle? A modular design allows you to add or re-arrange sofa components. Adjustable settings for arms/backs/legs is a plus!

3. Deep comfort – You will relax and entertain on this sofa, so it must be comfortable! A quality frame
and durable seating system are vital for long lasting comfort. Most importantly, try it out!

A sofa should work in with your lifestyle and not the other way around, so if your sofa ‘can’t’ –a King can! For further information about King Furniture visit www.kingfurniture.com.au

Mister Minit's top tips to rescue your shoes from the winter blues

Top tips to rescue your shoes from the winter blues

Surprisingly, winter is identified to be the toughest season for shoes, due to wet and slippery conditions that can cause stains, worn out soles and tearing and breakage that can eventually lead to ‘holey’ shoes and broken heels.

It’s common for both women and men to throw their shoes away at the end of the winter months, after being used and abused to a point beyond return. Losing your favourite pair of shoes to the effects of winter can be both devastating and costly, and something that is easily preventable.

Specialist in shoe repairs and care, international service retailer Mister Minit believes it’s easy to avoid damage to shoes and says a little TLC can go a long way in extending the life of your precious shoes.

“Winter not only means colder temperatures, but often times heavy rain and even snow. It’s good to have water and stain protector to seal the pores of your shoes and protect the leather from wet weather. Not only will your feet stay dry and toasty, but the water repellent spray also protects the leather from water stains and cracks,” says Kylee Young, Marketing Manager at Mister Minit.

“Make sure to keep your shoes dry after wearing and rub down the leather with a clean towel. If the shoes are wet on the inside then place some crumpled-up newspaper inside to maintain the shape and absorb the moisture. Never dry your shoes with too much heat as this can dry out the leather and cause cracks,” she says. More important than just maintaining your shoes in winter, is the need to preserve the beauty of our high end dress shoes throughout the year. Kylee Young says it’s important to look after our precious heels whilst also protecting our feet.

“High end dress shoes warrant extra care in order to maximise the longevity of our investments. It’s a shame to have a gorgeous pair of shoes that you’re unable to wear to the next wedding or social event due to a stain or scuff mark,” says Kylee.

“Most dress shoes have soles made from leather - a material that not only lets water through, wears quickly on abrasive roads/ surfaces but also is very slippery in rain and ice. Avoid injury and keep your feet dry by adding a thin layer of rubber to protect the sole. Doing this is not only good for the winter months but will also expand the lifetime of your fancy footwear,” she says.

It’s also important to get in the habit of regularly polishing your dress shoes! In only a matter of minutes, a good renovating shoe polish can protect leather - keeping it smooth, stretchable and more durable in the long-term. Mister Minit are experts when it comes to shoe repairs and provide a range of services to fix and prevent damage caused by both general and winter wear and tear. In order to save you and your feet from a whole lot of financial and physical angst this winter, Mister Minit has compiled their top tips on winter shoe care.

Mister Minit’s top tips for better shoes:

1. Heel Tip Replacement – To avoid that cringe-worthy clatter of your broken heel tip on route to your next meeting, repair the original heel and enhance the look and comfort of the shoe whilst protecting the heel block from damage. Replace plastic heel tips with rubber heel tips quickly to avoid slipping on slippery surfaces especially with super heels.
2. New Toe Piece – If too many nights out dancing with the girls have lead to your toe piece being scuffed and worn, you can have it replaced in order to make it look as good as new.
3. Stitching & Patching – Stitching is used to repair tears and rips, while patching is used to repair serious damage to shoes by replacing leather. Monitoring the need of stitching and patching will extend the life of the shoe.
4. Anti Slip Rubber Heels and Soles – To reduce the chance of slipping, add an anti-slip rubber sole. Different types of soles are available to suit a variety of shoes and boots.
5. Shoe Care Packs – Start to compile a shoe care pack that is best suited to your shoe needs. From polish and leather conditioner to water and stain protector, Mister Minit offer a personalised service and can discuss your specific needs.
6. Suede and Nubuck Cleaners - Suede and nubuck are very popular leathers for winter boots and shoes, and require a special cleaner and brush to keep the fluffiness of the suede looking great.

It’s timely to now get your shoes in top shape for winter and for repairs and advice, visit one of Mister Minit’s 220 stores across Australia and New Zealand.
